Slipcovers, also called furniture covers, are the right choice for many lifestyles. You can redecorate an entire room within a few hours. Slipcover shoppers fall into two categories: those looking to protect their sofas from pets, children, dirt or spills and those who want to give their old furniture new life. But slipcovers come in a variety of fabrics and a multitude of styles to suit any home decor. How do you find the right furniture covers? Selecting the right fit for your furniture is the first step.

1. How to find a slipcover to perfect fit your couch?

Slipcovers fit best on round-arm furniture with rectangular seat cushions, although you can now find slipcovers for hard-to-fit pieces of furniture. You may also want to consider whether you want a one-piece slipcover or one with several pieces. One-piece slipcovers offer a wider variety of sofa sizes and can easily be removed for washing. A slipcover set with individual pieces for each cushion will fit better and offer a more seamless look.

Before purchasing slipcovers, you’ll need to measure your chair, loveseat or sofa so you can find a slipcover in the right size. Different types of slipcover have different measurement methods. To find the correct size of your furniture, you should measure it in a corresponding way.

2. Whats the type of your couch?

Sectional sofa

The section sofa is a multi-piece sofa. The general number of pieces are 3 and 5.

Unlike the English Roll Arm sofa, the back cushions of a Lawson are also loose.

3. Which type of slipcover fabric do you prefer?

 Fabric

Slipcovers can be made from cotton, wool, polyester, spandex, and linen—almost any fabric or blend.

If you’ve determined that your furniture will be getting heavy traffic, look for durable slipcovers made from thick cotton. But they may show wrinkling faster than a cotton/synthetic blend, or 100 percent synthetic. Acrylic, Rayon, Microfiber, and Polyester materials are all good options. It’s also best to go with a dark-colored slipcover or one with a pattern that can hide stains if you’re buying a slipcover to protect your furniture.

If you prefer a slipcover that fits like a second skin and looks stylish, try a thin slipcover made from a stretchy cotton-spandex blend. This style of slipcover offers the most options concerning looks and texture since it comes in fabrics like faux suede and corduroy.

4. Which color and pattern you love?

Nothing updates a room more quickly than adding a pop of color or a new pattern. You may already have color cues in mind, but if you don’t, check out interior design magazines or online sites and look for color or patterns that catch your eye. Remember, you are not seeking to copy the decor of the room, but instead looking for color inspiration. It’s a great way to discover your design personality.

Color

It is a good idea to use a similar color palate for highlighted patterns. Too many different patterns and colors will overpower a space, making a room look busy and cluttered. Slipcovers give people the opportunity to renovate their home according to whim or season, like sand-dollar white for summertime and rich eggplant for fall. Individuals who purchase a slipcover for a sofa to hide stains should choose a product in a dark color or a pattern.

To mix patterns within a room, every piece of furniture should have the same background color, no matter what print is. It is also a good idea to maintain a similar color scheme in the patterns featured, or at the minimum, stick to two or three colors in addition to the background color.

If the color scheme only consists of a few colors, it is acceptable to use fabric with an opposite background. Using contrasting fabrics works best with simple color schemes. Too many contradictory colors and patterns can overwhelm the room and create a disorganized, cluttered effect.

Pattern

It is important that the pattern of choice meets the needs of one’s lifestyle.  Small, medium, and large patterns should be matched to similar-sized pieces of furniture. A large print will overwhelm a small piece of furniture. While a small print can become lost in a large piece of furniture, or appear too busy.

There are many aspects to consider when recovering furniture. One must decide upon a non-fitted or fitted piece, as well as the type of fabric and pattern you would like to decorate a home with. Once these considerations, as well as a budget, have been decided on for a project, it’s easy to find the perfect new or used slipcover on. Slipcovers can be used to maintain a casual atmosphere in a high-traffic area or achieve an elegant look in a formal dining area. By adding slipcovers to furniture pieces, the entire atmosphere in any room can be transformed.
